Where architecture deals with the planning, designing, and execution of structures, interior design concerns itself with what makes a structure habitable, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable. You, as a potential student, will have to pick a subject you're interested in and are good at. And to make a living off it, you need to undertake a professional interior designing course.

Whichever course you choose, there are certain elements it must offer so that you not only pick up theoretical knowledge but working skills as well.

• Practical: Practical experience is invaluable as you put into practice what you've learnt and see how a project comes together. A course should have at least three months of practical studies, more if possible.

• Knowledge of Materials: Clients you work for in the future will have different tastes and requirements. As such, choose a course that educates on different building materials.
